"i won't let anyone in the agency be hurt. For that purpose I noted and adopted his ways. The ways of the demon himself"
"surrender or i will go public with my theory. This is no deduction. It's the demons manipulative methods that erode the spirit... my new ability that will end the detective slayer!"

So he was the one who killed that guy but he cried
yeahh because he did not want to kill him :")
Atleast ranpo heard him *sigh*, what a guy he was tho
Killed his best friend just to fulfill his wish, must be painful and poor guy gave his all to keep his dream alive
Fyodor is a ba$tard, that's all I know about him since his introduction
I'm so so so so so glad to be reading the manga, what's coming next is pure chaos and the worst part is they'll never be able to adapt it all in one season so this one will have to end with some big cliffhanger
noooooooooo wtf :(
This is the beginning of chapter 57, the latest released chapter is 105 and while is isn't all a whole arc things are so tightly connected to each other it could as well be
Hello, do you remember what chapter from the Manga did they adapt this episode?
This arc is chapters 54 to 56, plus the beginning of 57
Thank you! :)
Actually, those chapters are only episodes 4 and 5, the first three are from a novel called "the secret origins of the agency" or something like that, I don't remember the exact name
Thank you for the additional information! Have a nice day ahead :D
Is he really dead at the end there? I don't think no one ever dies from being killed in this show.
Yup, in this show you die from living.
--says Dazai-sama. 😁
I'm pretty sure he is, things are a bit hectic in the manga rn so I don't remember if he was ever shown again but I don't think so. Also, people do die in this show, remember Odasaku
Sometimes they die sometimes they alive
The Port Mafia arc had some deaths. On contrary they do investigate murders as well and this character was a one off so he could easily be as disposable as those. Main characters don't generally die outside the Port Mafia. So I'd say there are exceptions.
I don't read the manga but he didn't seem like that important of a character to have his death faked... Nikolai was cleaning up the people who knew the plans, and while doing so, since Nikolai likes to talk alot and tends to overshare... he heard what they were gonna attempt to do to the agency... which is why he franticly, went on the police radio to tell Ranpo what he learned with his final breath.... was such a good episode.
He grows kinda imp later
Poe’s ringtone being ravens cawing is hilarious. Seems him and Ranpo are roughly on the same page. Sloppy work on the specialist’s part to stash the original manuscript page. Ranpo was pretty close to nailing the guy had Fyodor not prepared contingencies. Luckily Ranpo had his own backup.
I didn’t expect it all to be a farce, a suicide set up by the author himself because he was dying of stomach cancer. The specialist was indeed a good friend to the victim until the very end. What an elaborate plot to pull off for the sake of a mystery.
That specialist didn’t deserve that fate. I’m glad he was able to at least warn Ranpo of the danger that’s approaching. Fyodor and his goons are cooking up some kind of scheme and I’m a little worried for the Agency.
quoth the raven, nevermore
Nevermore lol
The lady climbing the stairs truly is a bit a dumb lol, who sees a doll coming it's way and doesn't run???? Ranpo knowing all along he's the culprit, someone surprised?.... Not gonna lie the Driver has the perfect rules.
I'm not a detective but from the start I KNEW the water was of tears.... they were actual friends so nothing else would come to my mind other than tears lol. Okay so with this I am 100% sure we're done with detective arc (of Ranpo alone) and finally going back to the main story.
That doll is from the inn. Mostly used to serve tea, thats why she wasnt scared until she saw it holding the bloody ears.
Me clapping when Rampo is destroying the manuscript, thinking how kind-hearted he is, fully satisfied with this episode.
The end:
BANG
I want to see Dazai already
He'll be there next ep as far as ir from the manga
Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol, real life bio: Russian novelist, short story writer, and playwright of Ukrainian origin. born 1 April 1809, died 4 March 1852.
the fictional Gift of Gogol in BSD S5 'The Overcoat' is based on one of the RL author's short stories published in 1842. the title via the Russian text: 'Шине́ль', translit. Shinyél’; sometimes is translated as "The Cloak" (thus BSD S5 Gogol wears a cloak). but the contents of the short story obviously show the titular item of clothing is a coat (not a cloak) worn over a man's clothes.
part 1 JIC gogo's spam algorithms mark my comment due to its length.
a bit of a description of the short story's events. i read it more than 30 years ago as a recommended exemplar of Russian literature of the period... but... the English translation i read was... well... perhaps Gogol's ability (as illustrated by this ONE short story, i've never read anything else by Gogol) is overblown due to historical significance or literary review renown from the period... or maybe it is just better in Russian...
the main character of 'The Overcoat' is an impoverished but dedicated bureaucratic clerk in the Imperial Russian Government (pre–Bolshevik Rebellion). the man works hard but is ridiculed by his junior employees for his poor, tattered, oft mended coat. so, the man goes to his friend a tailor and they design an extravagant and handsome new overcoat. the clerk works hard, lives even more frugally than before, and with the help of an unexpected Christmas bonus can pay his tailor friend for the materials and workmanship.
part 2
the clerk is lauded and celebrated by his boss and juniors at work for this fine overcoat. but the clerk is still troubled by his social inadequacies at the office party held in honor of HIS COAT! after the party on his walk home the clerk is assaulted, beaten, and badly injured. since he spent every bit of money he had on his coat, the thieves take his coat instead of his money. the clerk is now just as tattered as his old cloak was.
he reports the crime to the police, bleeding onto their floors. but they refuse his case since it is so petty. recovering at home, one of the clerk's juniors at the office visits him and recommends a recently retired Russian Army General. an 'important person' who is 'sticking his nose' into local politics. the clerk manages to get into the General's office and the General verbally abuses the clerk for such a petty request. the clerk passes out from his wounds, shock, and emotional distress right there in the General's office! somehow (my memory fails me here) the clerk is returned to his home and ... pretty much becomes a shut-in and dies of starvation... or illness from his beating...i forget which... too afraid of the world to even steal food.
now... this is where the really freaky-deaky spooky-@$$ $hit starts! seriously, the whole short story goes this far but wait, there's more! the clerk turns INTO ONE OF THE UNDEAD! the word in Russian escapes me but i think ghost or revenant works just as well. the clerk's restless shade wanders the streets of his town, and he STEALS EVERY OVERCOAT he can grab off men! any male pedestrian could be and is attacked for his coat! guess whom is the ghost's ok who's really going to read this short story? but JIC i've teased you enough to go find a copy...
Fun fact: that doll does exist IRL, it's quite famous actually.
It's one of the first examples of mechanical dolls in Japan. It works by placing a weight on the tray, which then slowly sinks down and the potential energy is converted into kinetic energy by a bunch of gears. It was originally used to pass stuff from one end of a big table to the next. Obviously the type of gadget only the rich would buy for bragging rights...
am i the only one who doesn't understand what the fuck is rampo talking about
you thought it was nikolai, but it was ME, DIO!!!
